SCAM ALERT: How I Got Cheated on Lamington Road — And Why the System Lets It Happen

The Setup

If you’ve ever shopped on Lamington Road, Mumbai, you’ve heard it’s India’s “tech paradise.”
But behind that reputation hides a thriving trade in refurbished and repaired laptops being passed off as brand-new.
I learned this the hard way earlier this year — and I’m sharing my story so others don’t become the next victims.

The Fraud

On 23 May 2025, I bought an ASUS ROG Zephyrus Laptop (₹1,50,000) from Next Generation Computers, located at 307, Irani Building, Grant Road East, Lamington Road, Mumbai – 400007.
The owner, Aman Bokadia, promised it was a brand-new sealed product.

Days later, the speaker failed.
When I contacted ASUS Support, they confirmed — under RMA Case ID INQLT60036 — that the laptop had already been repaired earlier for the same issue.
It was a refurbished unit, resold as new.
That’s not a mistake — that’s outright fraud.

The Runaround

When confronted, Aman Bokadia first made excuses, then stopped answering calls, WhatsApp, and email.
He even started avoiding me entirely, despite multiple store visits.
After realizing he wouldn’t take responsibility, I issued a legal notice on 09 August 2025, giving him one final chance to refund or replace the laptop.
No reply. No apology. Just silence.

The System’s Shrug

I went to the Mumbai Police with proof — invoice, ASUS confirmation, photos, and chats.
Their response was shocking but honest:

“We know these Lamington Road shops do this often. People like Aman know police can’t do anything — it’s a consumer court matter.”

So basically, even the police admitted this fraud pattern exists but can’t act, because it’s categorized as a civil dispute.
Scammers like this exploit that legal gap — openly, repeatedly, and confidently.

What I Did Next

  • Filed complaints on Jago Grahak Jago (National Consumer Helpline)

  • Emailed ASUS India Escalation Team with all evidence

  • Filed an official Consumer Court case via e-Daakhil now E-Jagriti (online) since I currently live and work in banglore

  • Uploaded every document: notarised affidavit, invoice, ASUS report, chats, and lawyer-signed legal notice

It’s now been over 15 days since submission; my case is under scrutiny for admission. The process is slow, but it’s moving.

What Makes This Worse

This isn’t an isolated scam.
Search online for “Aman Bokadia Lamington Road” or “Next Generation Computers reviews” — you’ll see multiple complaints on Justdial and Reddit calling this and other shops “the worst on Lamington Road,” accusing them of selling open-box or out-of-warranty units as new.
Even Reddit threads titled “Mr Fraud – Lamington Road Mumbai” mention this very shop and owner.

Lamington Road, once known as India’s electronics hub, is now infamous as a grey-market maze full of scams — and no one seems to care.

My Message

To Aman Bokadia and others who run these fraud setups:

You can ignore calls and hide behind loopholes, but the evidence is on record. The law will catch up — maybe slow, but sure.

To fellow buyers:

Always verify a laptop’s serial number and warranty on the manufacturer’s site before paying.
Don’t fall for low-price traps from Lamington Road or any “special deal” promises.

To the authorities:

Stop hiding behind “consumer dispute.”
Selling refurbished goods as new is cheating under IPC 420, not a “misunderstanding.

The Bottom Line

I’ve spent months chasing justice for something that should’ve been straightforward: a genuine purchase.
I’m now pursuing this through Consumer Court, and I won’t stop till it’s resolved.

If this post stops even one more person from being scammed by Next Generation Computers (Aman Bokadia), it’s worth every minute spent writing it.

Share this, repost this — let’s make sure the next time someone Googles Lamington Road laptop deals, they see the truth first.
